The link to the PDF file below contains information relating to the surviving seventeenth-century consort organ material. A survey of this kind is inevitably subject to constant updating as organs change hands or new information comes to light. Whilst it is unlikely that there are any major discoveries of unknown consort organs to be made now, it is probable that various parts, including ranks of pipework, survive in later chamber organs but have yet to be identified. Several of the organs listed in this survey have yet to be examined thoroughly to establish the exact nature of their surviving material and their date and provenance may thus be revised over time. A number of instruments are in private hands and their present whereabouts are not in the public domain: in those cases, the last known locations are given. Otherwise, this survey seeks to present a brief summary of the known surviving English consort organ material.
